How to Apply for a Permit in Unincorporated Greenlee County

Greenlee County has adopted no building code for the unincorporated area, so it does not review plans or inspect construction. It issues the building permit at no cost together with a Zoning Use Permit (and a Floodplain Permit where one applies). Apply to Planning and Zoning with the county Permit Application form, a scaled drawing of the property showing the proposed improvements, and the $45 non-refundable application fee (check, cash or money order); the county will tell you if other fees apply. The Zoning Regulations (Sec. 403(b)) waive permit fees on changes, repairs or improvements valued under $10,000, so ask the county whether the $45 applies to a smaller job. The county also offers online permitting through its SmartGov portal. The office is in the Engineer's Office on the 2nd floor of the Annex at 253 Fifth Street, Clifton; call (928) 865-4762 before visiting. Manufactured home and septic system permits are issued by the county Health Department.
