How to Apply for a Permit in Unincorporated Tarrant County

Tarrant County does not issue building permits for homes in its unincorporated areas. Builders constructing a home for resale email a Notice of Residential Construction in Unincorporated Area form to tspermitting@tarrantcountytx.gov, obtain three inspections during construction, and then email the Notice of Residential Construction Inspection Compliance form.

New construction or a substantial improvement of a commercial building, public building or apartment building of four or more units needs a Construction Permit from the Tarrant County Fire Marshal before work begins. Submit the Construction Permit Application with an electronic copy of plans approved by a third-party reviewer, a site plan showing hydrants, fire lanes and parking, and the fee. The Fire Marshal accepts cash, company check, cashier's check or money order payable to Tarrant County. Before occupancy, request a fire final inspection to receive a Certificate of Compliance.

Work in a FEMA floodplain needs a floodplain permit from Engineering Services, and septic systems need an OSSF permit. Inside a city's limits, apply to that city.
