How to Apply for a Permit in Freeport

For property inside Freeport city limits, start with the City of Freeport Planning and Zoning Department at 16040 Business 331. Drop off the City's Building Permit Full Packet items at the front desk, including a notarized Walton County building permit application, and pay the City's review fee by check or cash. Applications are reviewed first come, first served. When the City's review is complete, it emails its approval and receipt, and you submit them with your permit documents to the Walton County Building Department through the County's Civic Access portal or at 117 E. Sloss Avenue in DeFuniak Springs. Walton County issues the permit, performs the building inspections and issues the certificate of occupancy. Schedule county inspections by calling (850) 892-8160, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. The City also reviews the final survey before occupancy.
