How to Apply for a Permit in Apopka

Apopka issues building permits through the Building-Safety Department of Community Development Services, and all applications go through the city's OpenGov permitting portal at apopkafl.portal.opengov.com. Builders, sub-contractors, businesses, and homeowners create an account and apply there; sub-contractors apply under the trade they are performing, one application per trade. A licensed contractor registered with the City of Apopka must submit the application: registration means filing a current workers compensation certificate naming the City of Apopka as certificate holder, the current state license, and an Orange County competency license. An owner of a single family dwelling, or a commercial building not being sold or leased, may apply as an owner builder with proof of ownership and an owner builder affidavit. Fees are calculated from the signed contract or the ICC Building Valuation Data table value, whichever is greater, so bring the signed contract. Commercial and multi family plans also route to the Fire Department's Risk Reduction division before the permit issues, which carries its own fee. In person help is at the Building-Safety Department, second floor of 120 E. Main Street, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Inspections are requested on your permit record in the OpenGov portal; if you cannot reach the scheduling function, call 407-703-1713. Permits are valid for 180 days from issuance or 90 days after the last approved inspection.
