Broward County Permit Fees: 24 Jurisdictions Covered, and What Changes October 1

Broward County was the most-searched place on this site before we covered it, so it went to the front of the queue. As of today, the Broward County page links 23 city fee schedules plus the county's own schedule for unincorporated areas, every one taken from the official adopted document, cited, and dated.

The same job, priced 24 ways

A building permit for a $50,000 residential remodel runs from $509.50 in Plantation to $4,262.98 in Tamarac, surcharges and minimum fees included. That spread is the point of checking the actual jurisdiction: most Broward cities price building permits as a percentage of job value, and the percentages differ by city, so a contractor who bids the same kitchen in two neighboring towns is quoting two different permit costs. One surcharge every Broward permit shares

On top of each city's own fees, Broward County's Board of Rules and Appeals surcharge applies to permits issued anywhere in the county, and the two statewide surcharges under Sections 553.721 and 468.631, Florida Statutes, apply on top of that. Every estimate on a Broward page includes all three, itemized, so the total is the amount you would actually be charged at the counter rather than the base fee alone.

What changes October 1

Several Broward cities run their fee schedules on the fiscal year, so new rates can take effect October 1. Miramar, Sunrise, and Pembroke Pines are on that cycle, and Oakland Park, Cooper City, and others have annual adjustments due around the same date. We have scheduled re-checks for each and will update the pages as the adopted schedules publish; until then, the last-verified date on every page tells you how current its figures are. If you are pricing a job that will pull its permit after October 1, confirm the rate with the city.

HB 803 in Broward

4 Broward jurisdictions have adopted schedules under Florida's HB 803 with the adoption on record: Coral Springs, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Margate, Parkland. The rest still publish schedules that predate the law and may be revised. Not yet covered

A few Broward cities are missing because their posted schedules could not be verified against an adopting resolution, Pompano Beach among them. We do not publish a figure we cannot trace to an official document, so those pages wait until the city publishes a schedule we can cite.
