How to Apply for a Permit in Unincorporated Fort Bend County

Apply for a Development Permit online through the county's MyGovernmentOnline portal at mgoconnect.org (create an account, then a Residential or Commercial Development Permit application). A residential permit is needed for a new structure, or an addition to an existing one, of 400 square feet or more, and for work in the 100-year floodplain. Upload the recorded deed or plat, a survey or site plan and, for new structures, the CenterPoint address verification letter. Commercial projects first get County Engineer approval of civil construction plans, and commercial and multifamily building plans also go to the Fire Marshal (281-238-1500) through fbcfmopermits.com. Allow 7 to 10 business days; fees are paid through the portal, where power release requests are also made. Work started before the permit is issued is charged double fees.
